This was my favourite picture from a successful trip around Morden Park in London, as you would have seen from T’s last post! This time I tested out my newly purchased Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens on my R10 using an adapter, and got the perfect test subject.
My goal of trying to get a more versatile portfolio for this blog post was pleasingly derailed by another animal encounter. After attempting (and failing) to get some arty shots of berries in amongst the soil I looked up and, from it’s stare, I realised I was trying to take a photo of it’s favourite food patch.

I took a few photographs of it perched on a log before it disappeared and I left to grab T. When we returned there were more squirrels, running around, tucking into the berries and even pulling some poses.

I did actually manage to take some decent photographs of some flowers to test out the close up capabilities of my lens. I was very happy with the sharpness of my photos, even though I couldn’t use fast shutter speeds due to the lack of light. When the background isn’t too busy, it’s lovely and soft. But my first picture was the winner here, I love the blend of similar colours with the splash of green, and the depth of background really puts the squirrel in the spotlight.

If I manage to wrestle the macro off T I’ll give that a go next time but hopefully another animal comes along. C x
